The pressure was all on New London in its ClAC Division II state semifinal game against Norwich Free Academy Tuesday at Waterford High School. Whalers coach Dave Cornish, who took over as the New London boys basketball coach in 2023-24 after a two-year stint at NFA, couldn't bear thinking about what a Wildcat upset of the Whalers would mean. Even Bears' senior Jayden Carter wore uniform No. 35, unfathomable digits for a quarterback, instead of his customary No.5. And he didn't start the game.
