My two favorite ballad singers are both in England: Sienna Spiro in London and Grete Eitmantyte in Manchester. The latter has a moving new song called “see u more” where she wrote the elegant arrangement for a string quartet and piano. “I wrote ‘see u more’ shortly after losing my grandma,” says Grete. “It was one of those cases when you’re in bed, almost asleep, and everything at once comes into your head.

Although she now calls Nashville home, Australian-born artist Imogen Clark has spent a lot of time outside Music City touring the East Coast with Robyn Hitchcock and headlining shows in England. Clark’s acoustic rendition of “The Art Of Getting Through” gets my vote for Americana Song of the Year.

No, it’s not the Northern Lights. That glow in the night sky is the arrival of a new star from Iceland. Glóey (who wisely shortened her name from Glóey Eyjólfsdóttir) just released her debut single “Away” that’s quickly rising up several Fresh Finds playlists. It’s an LGBTQ+ love ballad that’s intimate and beautifully sung. Gloey’s voice has a confidence and command that you seldom hear in a new artist. Listeners may hear parallels to other great singers like American treasure Sophia James.
