An Aberdeen woman has opened up on living with "debilitating" pain for years. Marlene Lowe, 35, struggled through constant sicknesses with no explanation in her younger years before finally receiving a diagnosis for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in her early twenties. She said: “I was first diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) in my early twenties, after pushing myself through two degrees and several years of debilitating illness.

An Ellon house caught fire after it was struck by lightning yesterday. The incident happened on Sunday (June 1) at around 3pm on Main Street, Newburgh near the Aberdeenshire town. Police Scotland confirmed the fire erupted after the property was hit by lightning. Emergency services rushed to the incident and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. The A975 was closed in both directions due to the incident. As of last night, police stated that the road remained closed.

Scottish Cup hero Jack MacKenzie said he "got lucky" after being left with an ugly injury at Tannadice when he was hit by a flying chair. The defender was left badly hurt when the seat hit him after allegedly being thrown from the Aberdeen support, after their final day Premiership defeat at Dundee United. MacKenzie needed stitches and had to be carried off the pitch after the horror injury and said he hopes the authorities can stamp out similar incidents in the future.

Thousands of visitors heading for the Tall Ships Races Aberdeen can reap the benefits of free bus travel to the highly anticipated event. First Aberdeen are on deck with the event’s organisers in a campaign that will see 25,000 free Adult Day Tickets available while the vessels are berthed in the city from July 19 to 22. In addition, First Aberdeen will offer a 50% discount for all customers on a range of tickets during the event, which is expected to attract 400,000 visits to Aberdeen.

An emergency full council meeting has been called to discuss plans to close four nurseries in Aberdeenshire. Crossroads, Ballogie, Glass and Sandhaven nurseries face being mothballed as Aberdeenshire Council look to save £17 million. But a special meeting of all councillors will take place on Monday, June 9, to revisit the proposals to close the nurseries, with the view of also holding a full public consultation.
