Two women have appeared in court accused of attempted murder after a man was found hurt in Inverness. Erin Birse, 23, and Gemma Robertson, 39, appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court earlier today in connection with a spate of alleged incidents in the city earlier this week. Both women, whose general addresses were stated on court papers as Inverness, have jointly been charged with eight alleged offences with Robertson facing an additional charge.

A rogue trader who duped two women out of £7,000 has been given a chance to pay some of it back and avoid a strict sentence. Steven Stewart of Coulardhill, Lossiemouth, put up a local noticeboard advertisement and a woman from Ross-shire saw it on July 4 2022. She contacted Stewart and he surveyed her roof in Fortrose to see how much work needed doing and what the price would be.

A jilted lover who torched a woman’s home with petrol after she went back to her husband was jailed today – but she told the judge she forgives the firestarter. Colin Forbes, 52, of Eday Square, Mastrick, told his victim a body bag would be needed, before arriving at her house with petrol in a jerry can and starting a blaze.

A man has appeared in court accused of attempted murder in connection with a road crash involving an electric motorbike. We previously reported that the incident happened at about 9pm on Saturday on Cattofield Place in Aberdeen and also involved a car. Emergency services attended and a 22-year-old man who was riding the motorbike was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Police described his condition as “critical but stable”.

A demolition firm has been fined after its worker suffered serious injury – the second such time it has happened. Sylwester Zdunczyk was working for Cove-based Lawrie Demolition, removing metal sheets from a warehouse roof, when he fell 18ft and landed on a concrete floor. The 44-year-old was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and suffered broken ribs and a broken pelvis. It took him six months to regain fitness, although he is permanently impaired.
