Brisbane petrol prices were some of the highest of any capital city in the country in 2024, new data has revealed. It's prompted Queensland's transport minister to join calls for an ACCC inquiry into petrol prices. Analysis from the National Roads and Motorists Association (NRMA) shows Brisbane drivers paid on average 195 cents per litre at the bowser, behind only Canberra at 196.3 cents. Sydney and Melbourne were ranked third and fourth with 191.1 cents and 190.3 cents respectively.

A young woman may have been chased down by two men and assaulted before she was shot dead in a suburban street north of Brisbane, police say. Officers were called to Railway Parade in Caboolture just after midnight on Sunday, where they found a 23-year-old woman lying on the footpath, unconscious and not breathing. Police attempted to revive her but the woman was declared dead at the scene. Detectives are treating her death as a homicide and the offenders are still at large.

A former Brisbane theatre boss allegedly sexually abused a boy in his family home, a court has heard. Timothy O'Connor, the former Harvest Rain Theatre Company CEO, faced a two-day committal hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on nearly 60 fraud and child and adult sexual offences. He was charged in 2022 after police investigation Operation Uniform Cartograph. Police allege he used his position of power toabuse boys and men over 10 years.

The lawsuit, filed in the Supreme Court in Brisbane today, is being funded by billionaire Clive Palmer. It comes after the Queensland Supreme Court ruled that COVID-19 mandates breached the human rights laws of some frontline workers.

The judge in the trial for a teenager accused of the home-invasion murder of Brisbane woman Emma Lovell has retired to consider his verdict. Emma Lovell, 41, was stabbed in the heart and died on the front lawn of her North Lakes home during a 2022 Boxing Day home invasion. Two 17-year-old boys — who cannot be named as they were juveniles at the time — were charged with her murder. Ms Lovell's husband Lee Lovell was also stabbed in the back and kicked in the head during the incident.

The second teenager charged with the murder of Brisbane mother Emma Lovell, who was stabbed to death during a Boxing Day home invasion, has pleaded not guilty at trial. It was alleged two boys — who cannot be identified as they were 17 years old at the time — broke into Ms Lovell's house on Boxing Day night in 2022. The 41-year-old mother-of-two died after she was stabbed in the heart on the front lawn of her North Lakes home.
