Celebrating a birthday is a special occasion. However, for kids in foster care, it’s a reminder of yet another year without getting adopted. This week’s Wednesday’s Child wishes for the same thing each year – the love of a family. Sweet Alexis recently celebrated her sweet 16. “School is fun. I’m in high school right now,” Alexis said. It’s a milestone for this outgoing, talkative teen who has dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian for exotic animals.

Every child is special, and this week’s Wednesday’s Child is no exception. She’s one of a kind, like a diamond, which is fitting because that’s her name. Just like the precious stone, Diamond is resilient and knows that despite all she’s been through in her past, her future with a family is bright. “If I had a superpower, I would be invisible because when I feel uncomfortable sometimes, I just like to disappear,” Diamond said. A bright light like 16-year-old Diamond should never be dimmed.

I am so thankful to my coworker and friend @kkelly16 for being willing to share his recovery story at the Wolfe Street Foundation Red Carpet Gala this year. His story is powerful and, as Kevin says, if it helps one person it's worth it to share. https://t.co/gvv083YeLF
