Dame Fortune’s Cottage Court is ranked number four in the country after being among the 20 nominees for USA Today’s 10 Best Roadside Motels. LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A teacher at an elementary school in Little Rock was surprised Monday morning with a major award. Otter Creek Elementary School teacher Karyna Johnson was honored as the 2025 Arkansas Fine Arts Teacher of the Year by Arkansans For The Arts. The award comes with a $1,000 stipend and a citation from the Arkansas House of Representatives. Johnson said what keeps her motivated is a mission to make sure every child has the opportunity to succeed in the arts and beyond.

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Prosecutors said a Batesville man will serve a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his former roommate. Court records show 41-year-old Israel Estrada Cannalte was found guilty of first-degree murder last week in the death of 43-year-old Maximo Hernandez. Prosecutors said Hernandez’s body was found in the living room of his Batesville home by friends visiting on Dec. 26, 2023.

Gathered for the last time, the board met to discuss funding and recommendations to leave for the new board to take up. Act 903, passed during the recent legislative session, removes all seven current board members and allows the governor to replace them.

CONWAY, Ark. – The Arkansas Department of Health will be holding a measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine clinic in Conway next week. ADH officials said the clinic will be held at the Don Owen Sports Complex at 10 Lower Ridge Road on May 13 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.Officials say the vaccine will be provided at no cost, but people are asked to bring their insurance card if they have one. Six cases of measles have been confirmed in Arkansas.
