    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A teacher at an elementary school in Little Rock was surprised Monday morning with a major award. Otter Creek Elementary School teacher Karyna Johnson was honored as the 2025 Arkansas Fine Arts Teacher of the Year by Arkansans For The Arts. The award comes with a $1,000 stipend and a citation from the Arkansas House of Representatives. Johnson said what keeps her motivated is a mission to make sure every child has the opportunity to succeed in the arts and beyond.

    BATESVILLE, Ark. – Prosecutors said a Batesville man will serve a life sentence after being convicted of murdering his former roommate. Court records show 41-year-old Israel Estrada Cannalte was found guilty of first-degree murder last week in the death of 43-year-old Maximo Hernandez. Prosecutors said Hernandez’s body was found in the living room of his Batesville home by friends visiting on Dec. 26, 2023.
