Tomorrow is my 12-year ‘cancerversary’ – that’s 12 years since the day I was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012. I no longer count the years of being ‘cancer-free’, since finding out the disease spread in 2022. I now simply count years of life – and believe me, 12 years is an extraordinary length of time to survive after a cancer diagnosis at such a young age. A few things I’ve done in that time:Turn 30. See my nieces grow up to become remarkable young women.

When I was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2022, I wanted to retire. The average prognosis was 3-5 years and whilst I was (and still am) confident I’d outlive that, I was only 39 – you don’t have to be amazing at maths to figure out my line of thinking. So: retirement. I didn’t want to die working. I didn’t want to regret all the things I didn’t do. I wanted to read books on the sofa with my cats. For many months, life felt unfair.

Hilarious, and with a stunning friendship storyline between Rachel and her best friend James.
