After the first stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia, Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) wears the maglia rosa of race leader from his victory over Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike). But the tables could turn in the stage 2 individual time trial in Tirana, Albania. Pedersen has a four-second lead on Van Aert in the Giro d'Italia general classification, but the Belgian is a favourite to take the maglia rosa in the 13.7-kilometre test.

Mads Pedersen played off the hard work of his Lidl-Trek team and claimed the opening stage of the 2025 Giro d'Italia in Albania to move into the first maglia rosa of the race. The Dane held off a late charge from Wout van Aert (Visma-Lease a Bike) in second and with Orluis Aular (Movistar) a surprise presence in third.

Lewis Askey (Groupama-FDJ) attacked with 500 metres to go and won Boucles de l'Aulne à Châteaulin with room to spare. Benoît Cosnefroy (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) led the chasing bunch two seconds back for second place, ahead of Clément Venturini (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) who placed third. The winding 183.1km course around Brittany included 12 passes of the finish line, with Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) attacking on the final lap. He was caught with 5km to go to set up the bunch sprint.

EF Education-EasyPost rolled out a special team jersey for the Giro d'Italia designed to eliminate a clash between the traditional pink jersey of the race leader and the American team's pink team kit. The team provided a first look at the new 'White Diamonds' design on Wednesday at the same time as they announced Richard Carapaz as the general classification leader for EF Education-EasyPost in the Giro d'Italia.
