After being caught after his solo effort and missing out on victory at the Amstel Gold Race, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) admitted that he was perhaps "too enthusiastic" making such an early attack with just under 50km to ride at the Dutch one-day race. Pogačar moved away from the group of favourites with Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor) over the Gulperberg, but ended up alone with 42km still to ride on the next climb up the Kruisberg, as the Frenchman blew up behind his seated acceleration.

In the biggest win of his career and one of the races of the season, Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) played the perfect hand to defeat both Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) and Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) at a thrilling Amstel Gold Race, outsprinting both the Olympic and world champion to the line on Sunday. Evenepoel led out and opened up the sprint just outside Valkenberg, with Pogačar poised in his wheel.

British cycling legend Barry Hoban has passed away aged 85. An icon and pioneer of the sport in the UK, Hoban won eight Tour de France stages, two Vuelta a España stages and, famously, Gent-Wevelgem ahead of Eddy Merckx during his time racing in the 1960s and 70s. Alongside the likes of fellow great Tom Simpson, Hoban's success in the 20th century paved the way for the modern stars that have emerged from Great Britain.

Marianne Vos has signed a landmark indefinite contract with Visma-Lease a Bike that will see her race for the Dutch team until she decides to retire, she announced on Saturday. Often dubbed the "Greatest of All Time", Vos will see out the twilight of her illustrious career on her home Dutch team, having been a leader there since Jumbo-Visma formed its women's squad back in 2021 and turned pro in 2006.
