Things were going well. I’d just read my students’ midterm papers, and they were excellent – all As and Bs. My son was going to start college in two weeks. I was on spring break (ahh, time off). And I’d just found out that my brother’s lymphoma was slow-moving. I was on my way to pick up egg rolls for my mom and Mike, my brother. I’ve seen things that most don’t see, but I made it out alive, and I’m so thankful that I did. Lately this Thanksgiving, I choose to reflect on what I’m grateful for. Snow on pine leaves, cats running quickly across the street, my neighbors, my cul-de-sac, my home, my family. My husband of 27 years has stood with me through thick and thin.
