CITY OF GROSSE POINTE — A year and a half since opening, the owners of Shift Kitchen & Cocktails in The Village have taken market feedback and are adjusting the restaurant’s concept accordingly. The lounge-style cocktail bar was not fully embraced by the community, co-owner Mark Adamo said, and fits better the demographic of Birmingham — its original location — than it does The Village, where patrons are more receptive to a family eatery.

THE GROSSE POINTES — Families and children can experience their favorite trucks up close and personal during the Pointes’ first “Touch a Truck” event 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, May 18, at Pier Park, 350 Lakeshore. “We are going to have a bunch of big, fun trucks that are all the little children’s favorite things in this community,” said Nora Ezop, board member of the Grosse Pointe Farms Foundation, which is sponsoring the free event in partnership with the city and Pier Park.

CITY OF GROSSE POINTE — “Here we are two years later,” developer Brian Giles said, from when the former Cadieux School at 389 St. Clair was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in spring 2023. The building housed functioning schools until the 1950s and then served as administrative offices for the Grosse Pointe Public School System until 2021. Today, it stands repurposed into a luxury apartment complex known as the Historic Residences at St. Clair.

In 2019, shortly after moving from St. Louis to the Farms, Darraugh Collins reached out to Food Rescue US intending to volunteer and was told the nonprofit — which transfers surplus food from businesses to social service agencies — did not operate in Michigan. The person she spoke with asked if she’d be interested in starting a local chapter. “They said, ‘You know what, you just get one food donor, find an agency and then you’re started,’” Collins recalled. So she did.
