PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Owning a boat could soon become even more expensive in the Ocean State. That's because lawmakers are mulling a proposal that would impose a new tax on boats. The R.I. House Committee on Finance took up the legislation, sponsored by Rep. John Lombardi, Tuesday evening. "It's a revenue source and it's a revenue generator," Lombardi explained. "The thing that's most concerning is, we could purchase a $5 million yacht right now, pay no sales tax and leave the state.

NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - People headed to Maceroni Funeral Home in North Providence Sunday to pay their respects to the late Senate President Dominick Ruggerio, who died on Monday. Ruggerio, 76, died after a lengthy battle with cancer and other ailments. He served in the Senate since 1985 and as senate president since 2017. Some of Ruggerio's colleagues spoke with 12 News and reflected on their time working with him.
