EXETER. R.I. (WPRI) - Dozens of Rhode Islanders gathered at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Monday afternoon to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. The entire cemetery was adorned with thousands of American flags marking the headstones of the state's veterans and their loved ones who have been laid to rest. Gov. Dan McKee and Veterans Services Director Kasim Yarn presided over the state's 51st annual Memorial Day commemoration at the cemetery. Ronald Gill Sr. was among those in attendance.

JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - The investigation continues into an officer-involved shooting that happened outside of a Johnston gas station over the weekend. Officers were called to the Shell at the intersection of Hartford and Atwood avenues late Saturday night after a caller claimed a man and woman were arguing in the parking lot. The officers pulled up and immediately spotted the man, later identified as Damian Peterson, sitting alone in the driver's seat of his parked vehicle.

Damian Peterson, 28, has been charged with assault and battery, assaulting an officer, reckless driving, obstructing an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Officers were called to the Shell at the intersection of Hartford and Atwood avenues late Saturday night after a caller claimed a man and woman were arguing in the parking lot.
