We were blessed with a year of travel last year. Making it a point to do several two- or three-night trips within driving distance, our second to last trip last year was to Traverse City. We got up north just in time for peak fall colors . . . and it was breathtaking! Truly something a photo could never capture. Traverse City is a perfect family-friendly getaway for all seasons.

When you fall in love and marry a man from Ohio, over time you begin to conform to his Ohioan ways–one of those being that “up north” is now considered Lake Erie. My husband grew up coming to the shores and islands of Lake Erie since he was a baby, and shortly after we began dating I met his family there for the first time. It quickly held a special place in my heart. Over the years we have stayed all along the coast line, from Port Clinton to Vermilion.

But, did you know that many of the apple orchards offer other produce to pick . . . and some of them even have cider and donuts available!? There are also many great u-pick farms that you can take the kids to to enjoy a day of berry picking. As crops can sometimes be unpredictable due to our crazy Michigan weather, please be sure to call before going to ensure they have crops to pick.

I think we can all admit that there have been points of highs and lows in our mental health along the way–and that it’s not always easy to find ways to support our mental health. I think we can collectively agree that teaching is one of the most important jobs that one can have and is crucial to our children’s futures; yet, many teachers are overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated. Therefore, any chance I get to shout out, show love and kindness, or help in any way possible for my children’s teachers, I will be the first one there willing to help and shout their praises from the roof top. This year Teacher Appreciation Week runs from May 6th-May 10th.
