On a cool Sunday afternoon, cars were whipping in and out of the small parking lot in front of Cheesesteak House along Davis Avenue. Inside, the line moved fast as the grill sizzled with meat as other cooks prepped and packaged long, slender cheesesteaks. The Padilla family has been running this restaurant for more than 10 years, and it's turned into a pillar of the local sandwich community. The door is almost always swinging open, letting the sunlight in; there are plenty of pick-up orders.

Each month, we look at booze sales around Dallas; the state publishes a report of total alcohol sales for every bar and restaurant in the state. Bottled Blonde along North Good Latimer between Deep Ellum and downtown has long dominated the top 10 on that list, often pushing north of $500,000 in sales each month. For the latest report, which was for February's numbers, the massive bar wasn't in the top 25 in Dallas.

The Dallas Morning News reports that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) will be patrolling Dallas restaurants and a theme park today in a truck that will blast "dying animals' cries." PETA's press release gives the details of today's tour. The truck, "Hell on Wheels," is designed to look like it is loaded with pigs squished inside pens (of course, no real animals are involved).
