Friday, November 29, 2024. The day after Thanksgiving in America. It was overcast here in New York, with some rains in the earlier part of the day. Having grown up in New England, living my life mainly in the northeast, it seems that this holiday is and was usually overcast, as indeed it was yesterday. Very quiet in the city, and rainy enough to keep most from strolling after the afternoon roast turkey luncheon.

Friday, November 22, 2024. Well, we’re finally getting our rain that’s been away from these parts for several weeks (or is it months?). Whatever it is, New Yorkers are well aware of it and the need. Even to wash the streets once in a while. Right now, at the moment of this writing, in the late evening of yesterday, the yellow leaves that have been on the tree longer than usual (and more colorful than usual) are now a carpet of leaves.

Friday, November 8, 2024. A beautiful sunny day, yesterday in New York, with temps in the mid-70 and lot of sunshine and back down to the high 40s in the late evening. The news of course is about Donald Trump winning his second term on the Presidency. I don’t write about politics because everyone has his or her point of view on the subject and I deeply respect that right.

Friday, November 1, 2024. A kind of summer-weather temperatures have been around and built up to an unseasonably, sunny late Autumn days here here in New York with the temps reaching the upper 70s and even touching 80 degrees in some parts, dropping into the upper 60s at night.

Friday, October 25, 2024. Social Diary and the Dreamers. In this week’s column, Lauren Lawrence interprets Melania Trump’s dream. Timing is right as Melania’s just published her book. The book hit number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list. No small feat, this. I happen to “know” Melania because for quite some time when lunching at Michael’s, Melania would also be a guest and seated at a table right next to mine. Our tables were in the bar area, just outside the center of the dining room.

This week’s Society Dream comes from someone who has been famous, continuing to gather fame for more than a quarter-of-a-century, just for being Who She Is.I was first aware of Paris Hilton back in the late ’90s in Southampton in summertime when she and her sister Nicky, both then in their mid-teens, were getting a lot of notice locally for going out to nightclubs (the Southampton version) late at night.

Friday, October 4, 2024. More nice days, temps in the low 70s. Sometimes sunny, but often covered with these massive cumulus clouds often tinted with grey. They always look like a movie set background to me, and I want to believe they are part of a mystery about ourselves. And of course I have not solved it. Nor do I want to. Anyway these have been nice days weather-wise. At least for those of us earthlings who have been lucky enough.

Warm sunny day here yesterday in New York. Today’s subject of Lauren Lawrence’s Society Dreams was a man named Sir David Tang. A wildly popular Asian entrepreneur, philanthropist and billionaire, Tang was born in 1954 into a prominent, affluent family in Hong Kong where his grandfather, Sir Shiu-Kin Tang, was a businessman and philanthropist and socialite. At age 12 he moved with his parents to England where he began his education.

Friday, September 13, 2024. Yesterday was another beautiful late Summer day in New York, in the mid- to high-70s midday, and cooling to the mid-60s by late evening with more of these days forecast for the weekend. Today’s Dream subject is an old friend of mine, Boaz Mazor, a native of Israel who as a young man after college migrated to the US (and New York) back in the mid-1960s. He started working in the fashion business back then.

Friday, September 6, 2024. A nice sunny day yesterday in New York, followed to a cooler evening with temps down to the low 60s. Throughout the mid-century last, Kenneth Jay Lane was the artificial jeweler supreme in New York. He was a boy from Detroit, son of a man who was in the auto parts supply business. He’d attended the University of Michigan and then the Rhode Island School of Design. Somewhere in those early years he came to New York and fell in love with it.
