Friday, November 29, 2024. The day after Thanksgiving in America. It was overcast here in New York, with some rains in the earlier part of the day. Having grown up in New England, living my life mainly in the northeast, it seems that this holiday is and was usually overcast, as indeed it was yesterday. Very quiet in the city, and rainy enough to keep most from strolling after the afternoon roast turkey luncheon.

Wednesday, November 27, 2024. Sunny, but cool yesterday in New York. With the temps dropping from the low 50s to the 40s. The town seemed quieter although the two girls’ schools in my nabe were in attendance until yesterday afternoon. Nevertheless, the traffic was noticeably lighter across the Upper East Side by late afternoon. I imagine the big holiday exit will take place today. I gladly remain and dine in town, as a guest at friends’ family table.

Monday, 11_25_24.After a rainy, cold-ish weekend in New York, we’ve begun Thanksgiving Week here in America, the Land of the Free. Evoking memories. You know of course, that it doesn’t really begin until maybe the night before – this coming Wednesday. But otherwise it’s a reminder of the specific day annually in all our lives. Which for a lot of people — at least Americans — is the day of the turkey.

Friday, November 22, 2024. Well, we’re finally getting our rain that’s been away from these parts for several weeks (or is it months?). Whatever it is, New Yorkers are well aware of it and the need. Even to wash the streets once in a while. Right now, at the moment of this writing, in the late evening of yesterday, the yellow leaves that have been on the tree longer than usual (and more colorful than usual) are now a carpet of leaves.

Today 11_21_24.Waiting for some rain to accompany the clouds that fill the sky as I write this. The weatherman even had maps to show the potential. So where is it, I’m thinking. I read about the world we’re living in every morning as soon as I’m vertical. It’s the first thing I do after I check the incoming mail quickly — since 80 percent of it is commercial or spam —selling something (or scaring you about that backache you woke up with).
