University of Connecticut women’s head basketball coach Geno Auriemma became the all-time winningest coach in NCAA history Wednesday night. The Huskies defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University 85-41. Seventy-year-old Auriemma earned his 1,216th win Friday night as his No. 2 Huskies beat No. 14 North Carolina 69-58. That matched Tara VanDerveer, who retired in April after 38 seasons at Stanford. His 1,217 wins are the most in NCAA history, women’s or men’s, for any division.
Mississippi State Heading Into the BYE

Mississippi State will use its bye week during the final stretch of games in the regular season to reassess its plans before facing Missouri on Nov. 23. The Bulldogs (2-8, 0-6 SEC) are currently regrouping after losing 33-14 to Tennessee on Saturday. They are in the 16th spot in the SEC, right behind Kentucky, which is 1-6 in SEC play. The last stretch of the season is brutal for the Bulldogs, facing Tennessee in Week 11, Missouri in Week 13 and Ole Miss to close out the season.

Lane Kiffin is sitting in luxury right now. The Ole Miss head coach has yet to reach his offense’s full potential this season. They still won 28-10 over the No.2 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. Their top receiver, Tre Harris, didn’t even play on Saturday. Neither did the Rebel’s leading rusher, Henry Parrish Jr. Parrish went down with what appeared to be a severe left leg injury in the Rebel’s win against Arkansas in Week 9.

The Florida Gators are gearing up to take on the Texas Longhorns in Week 11. The Gators have been preparing for this uphill battle, despite the question of starting quarterback still looming. Freshman quarterback Dj Lagway suffered a hamstring injury in the second quarter against Georgia in Week 10. Leaving the third-string QB, Aidan Warner, to come in and finish the game. Warner completed just 7 of 22 passes for 66 yards, one interception and zero touchdowns.

The South Carolina Gamecocks came in hot with a 44-20 upset over Texas A&M, handing the Aggies their first SEC loss of the season. Texas A&M’s loss to South Carolina definitely put a scratch on what has been a successful season thus far. However, the Aggies’ season isn’t in jeopardy just yet. They’re tied with Georgia on top of the SEC standings at 5-1 and still have three regular-season games remaining after their bye week.

The Magic had an impressive game Monday night against the Indiana Pacers when 21-year-old Paolo Banchero dropped 50 points to aid in their win. However, Wednesday night didn’t look as promising. Orlando blew a 20-point lead, then missed 18 of 22 shots in the fourth quarter of a 102-99 loss to the Chicago Bulls. The Magic led by 15 after the first quarter and 48-28 at one point in the second.

Overnight, Texas went from being the No.1 team in the country with an undefeated record to a No.5 team being told they can’t handle the Southeastern Conference. After the Longhorns’ loss, there are now zero undefeated teams in the SEC. Oregon is now the fourth team to take the No.1 spot in the AP Poll Rankings. Playing at Texas for the first time since 1958, Georgia gave the Longhorns their first loss of the season. Texas was the last remaining unbeaten team in the SEC.

In fact, the franchises have faced off many times over the years, including in another World Series. Week 8 of college football brings with it one of the best Southern rivalries in one of the most strident places to do it. The No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers host the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend at Neyland Stadium. The Alabama-Tennessee rivalry is unique in that itās widely known not by a nickname, but by a date. The nickname of this rivalry is simply the Third Saturday in October. Starting in 1928, it began to be the date the game was played on annually.
Hurricane Helene took down a historic live oak tree at UF, saddening its admirers

The fall of a massive live oak tree on the University of Florida campus during Hurricane Helene brought to Mindy Nissenberg's mind another tragic end in a children's book. "In many ways, the tree reminded me of The Giving Tree," said Nissenberg, the communication director for UF's Literacy Institute. "It just didn't have any more to give."Nissenberg is among the many saddened after the Sept.26 collapse of the Norman Hall courtyard tree.
