The East Lansing Police Department released the identities of the victims who were found in a freezer back on November 7, 2024. They tell us the body of Susan Barbara Weerawat, 76, and the remains of the body of Pramort Weerawat, 72, have been identified using various scientific techniques. The Ingham County Medical’s Office has advised ELPD that due to the condition of the bodies, the cause and manner of death will be classified as undetermined.

JACKSON, Mich. — Officials with Consumers Energy say that more than 700 crews will be working on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, across the state with the goal to restore power to most customers who were affected by storms over the weekend. “We appreciate the patience of our friends and neighbors these last couple of days. We want to reward that patience by doing all we can to serve people in need today,” said Chris Fultz, one of Consumers Energy’s officers in charge for the storm restoration.

LANSING, Mich. — The Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office is releasing information following a deadly shooting that happened back in December. Officials say that on December 29 around 10:30 Lansing Police were called to a reported shooting on the 4900 block of Belle Chase Blvd. We’re told that two people were found at the apartment, shot. One of the victims, identified as Deandre Luckey, was found outside the apartment complex with several gunshot wounds.

LANSING, Mich. — The Capital Area Humane Society has announced an expansion of its public spay and neuter clinic following a major donation. We’re told that the Michael G. Eyde Estate has donated a building at 3303 West Saginaw Street in Lansing. This will allow CAHS to relocate and expand its clinic. In a press release, officials say that CAHS has operated its public clinic in South Lansing since 2011, but due to increased demand, the organization has outgrown its current facilities.

JACKSON, Mich — The city of Jackson has announced the new Chief for the Jackson Police Department. According to a press release, Christopher Simpson will be sworn in as the next Chief at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, February 11. This change in police leadership comes as current Police Chief Elmer Hitt plans to retire later this month. According to the release, the incoming Chief is a lifelong Jackson resident with extensive experience in local law enforcement.

The policy runs from Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m. until further 6 a.m. on Friday, February 14. Code Blue allows local shelters to increase capacity and operation hours. Neighbors can get a free ride to the warming centers from the Lansing Fire and Police Departments and the CATA Bus System.

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A hit-and-run investigation is underway after officials say a 27-year-old man was found dead on the side of the road in Summit Township. Jackson County Officials have identified the victim as Brent Walker of Jackson. We’re told that Brent was found around 4 in the morning on Saturday, November 23rd on the side of the road on South Street and Helena Avenue. Officials believe the vehicle that hit Brent is a charcoal gray or black vehicle with minimal front-end damage.
