Much like we did with the Male and Female Athletes of the Year, our readers will have a say in who our Players of the Year are. DARTMOUTH — A veteran catcher at Bishop Stang, Nate Moniz has played second base for the past six games as his team has battled injuries in its lineup. “This is only the second game that Nate has caught this year because of some of the injuries that we’ve had,” said Bishop Stang head coach Brian Rose. “We’ve had a few guys playing out of position because of the need of the team. It’s a very unselfish team. They’re doing what’s best for the group and I think that’s why we’re seeing that success.

Smith homered in his first varsity at bat in a loss to Nauset. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base. The winner of the Preseason Baseball Player of the Year poll was Wareham’s John Varden.
