    NEW BEDFORD — Coaching football at New Bedford High has been in the back of Bob Lomp’s mind for awhile now. “I went for it both times when (the head coaching position) was open before when I was a young coach,” said the 52-year-old Lomp. “I was always aware of the New Bedford history from the 1990s and its long rivalries. Living on the SouthCoast, that was the job I always wanted.”He’s finally got what he wanted.

    The 2025 spring season for high school sports in Massachusetts ended this past weekend with championship games in the MIAA. GNB Voc-Tech softball had the deepest runs among SouthCoast girls teams, reaching the Div. 3 state final. Apponequet softball and girls lacrosse both reached the Elite 8. Several athletes contributed to their teams’ success this postseason. Now it's time to name a tournament MVP, and we've given our readers the power to do so.
