The Government of Canada recently released Proposed Oil and Gas
Sector Greenhouse Gas Emissions Cap Regulations ("Proposed
Regulations")1 under the Canadian Environmental
Protection Act, 1999 ("CEPA").1
The Proposed Regulations set a cap on greenhouse gas
"(GHG") emissions from the oil and gas sector, equivalent
to 35 percent below 2019 levels.

operation of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement
(CUSMA or the Agreement). The Government is seeking views on what
