A gyrocopter pilot has been injured in a fiery crash-landing on the World Heritage-listed K’Gari (Fraser Island) in Queensland. Witnesses were close by and watching the low-flying aircraft moments before the crash just after midday on Friday. It happened near the Moon Point camping ground, 360km north of Brisbane, with the impact throwing the pilot from the aircraft. Former Australian Test cricketer and television personality Michael Slater has been denied bail for a second time this year as he faces 25 charges, including domestic violence. The 54-year-old is accused of assault, strangulation and burglary relating to several incidents in the Noosa region between December 2023 and early this year. It's alleged he stalked a woman and sometimes sent her more than 100 text messages a day. The court heard Mr Slater also allegedly sent her several abusive texts.

Maggie Shambrook has been living in temporary accommodation in Brisbane for six years and counts herself lucky to have a roof over her head. As a single women over 55 she is part of the fastest growing group of Australians experiencing homelessness. "I lost my job and my home, I thought I'd be living in and renting for the next 20 years in the same week," she said. She found temporary accommodation, a small unit on the bottom floor of a 1970's brick home at Banyo in Brisbane's northside.

In a rubber forest just north of Ho Chi Minh City, an excavation to find the bodies of North Vietnamese soldiers has made a long-awaited discovery. The search has unearthed dozens of men, presumed to have been killed in battles more than 50 years ago. Among the people who helped find them are those who fought against them — soldiers from Australia, and their descendants. The discovery has been more than a decade in the making, spearheaded by Luke Johnston and veteran John Bryant.

In the back of a station wagon, Jaki Rose prepares for the workday. This isn't where she thought she'd end up. The 58-year-old was a married stay-at-home mum to four, but then in 2019 her relationship broke down. For the past 18 months she's been living out of her car. Loading... "I couldn't afford the rent," she says. Driving from car park to car park in Redcliffe, north of Brisbane, Jaki — who works as a chef — has lately been parking up at a local boat ramp.
