The Hills Bulls overcame a 16-point half-time deficit to charge to an exciting 30-28 victory over Glebe Dirty Reds in the opening round of the Sydney Shield rugby league campaign last Sunday. Man of the moment Edmond Matta converted all five tries for the Bulls, with the last kick in the 71st minute sealing the hard-fought win. Tom Watson planted the equalising try in the 70th minute, his second of the match, after the Bulls played catch up for all but the final 10 minutes.

Watch some of Australia’s elite young female footballers in action as they will descend on Valentine Sports Park, Glenwood for the 2025 Emerging Matildas Championships. The exciting event is one of the major competitions being held in The Hills this year, featuring the country’s most promising female talent in the Under 15’s and Under 16’s age groups. It will be held from July 15-20. Valentine Sports Park hosted the event known as the National Youth Championships.

Get ready for energy-sapping, adrenalin-pumping action right in the Hawkesbury backyard when True Grit NSW returns on the weekend of March 1 and 2. The organisers are expecting more than 3000 ‘Gritters’, including around 180 adventurous folks from The Hills and The Hawkesbury, to compete in a 10km course, with 30 plus obstacles or a 5km course, featuring over 15 obstacles.

The Western Wildcats Netball Club are encouraging both girls and boys to try out netball as the sport continues to grow around the state. The Wildcats is the youngest club in the Hawkesbury and has experienced a lot of growth since they started three years ago. As the Wildcats coach, treasurer, umpire and player, Charlene Hardiman has been very active in netball for many years, starting the game as a child.

Legendary Australian footballer Ron Lord has posthumously received the medal of the Order of Australia, for services to football (soccer). Ron is one of the pioneering footballers who helped Australia gain international respect. He passed away on April 8, 2024, aged 94, his beloved wife Katherine predeceasing him in March 2017. Ron is survived by children Brian, Jenny and John and their families.
