Metro Vancouver, Canada’s third-largest urban region, could reach and surpass the key population milestone of three million residents in 2024. Based on population estimates from British Columbia government statisticians, Metro Vancouver’s 23 local jurisdictions and municipalities could reach a combined population of 3.021 million in 2024. This is an increase from the estimated 2.935 million residents in 2023 and 2.842 million residents in 2022.

In a heated meeting interrupted several times by outbursts in a packed gallery, Edmonton city councilors decided Monday they needed more time to consider declaring a state of emergency over housing and homelessness. In a 9-4 vote, councilors decided to return to the matter on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.Mayor Amarjeet Sohi proposed the idea after days of dangerously cold temperatures and several arrests at a nearby homeless camp. “People are dying,” Sohi said.
