The former Fleet Foxes drummer turned indie-music outcast is best known for his feel-good song “Real Love Baby,” with 370 million streams on Spotify. Most of his discography, however, is not nearly as conventional as his 2016 hit. Josh Tillman, who adopted Father John Misty as his stage name, is known for his odd lyrics and concept albums that blur fiction with reality.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, the Robsham Theater Arts Center welcomed five of Boston College’s a cappella groups to its stage for the fall A Cappella Showcase. Despite a small turnout, the groups brought a warm, intimate energy to the theater, and the cheers of family and friends filled the space.

In celebration of Boston College’s last day of classes, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) held its annual Modstock concert in the Mod Lot on Thursday afternoon. This year, Modstock was headlined by the rock band Neon Trees, and accompanied by indie pop artist Del Water Gap as the show’s opening performer.

Boston College’s annual Arts Festival is a three-day celebration of the arts community at Boston College and in the surrounding area. The festival offered nonstop performances, activities, and exhibitions from Thursday through Saturday, showcasing a wide variety of student talents. The scale of the event encompassed an outdoor tent, several buildings, and indoor spaces on campus.

The worst thing I ever did to Arts Editor Sofia Torres was ask her to be on aux. Most people get stressed out by the idea of having to expose their music taste in a public setting, and she’s no different. The first time I ever asked Sofia if she wanted to pick the music, in her own living room no less, she looked at me like I’d just told her I hated her. But the thing is, Sofia secretly loves being on aux.

As students, alumni, and family members filled Robsham Theater on Saturday night, a slideshow of photos welcomed the audience to The Phuture, Phaymus Dance Entertainment’s 20th anniversary show. Pictures of current and past team members flashed by, and the early-2000s throwback outfits pictured were only the beginning of the show’s nostalgia. Phaymus is a hip-hop dance crew established in 2004. Its 20th anniversary show, held at 7 p.m. in Robsham on Feb.

When Joey Zama-Lenfest, MCAS ’26, was navigating the chaotic course selection process during his freshman orientation at Boston College, he noticed a class on EagleApps that piqued his interest. Strapped for credits and willing to branch out, he signed up for Gospel Music Workshop, a one-credit course centered around “choral music and oral traditions that capture the Black experience in America,” according to its course description. This course would change Zama-Lenfest’s time at BC unexpectedly.

When most people picture college a cappella, they think of the iconic Pitch Perfect riff-off scene or over-dramatic Glee mashups. The Boston College Dynamics prove that the reality isn’t far off, but is a little more serious. The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) is one of the only global competitions dedicated to student a cappella. The Dynamics performed in the quarterfinals against nine other Boston schools on Feb.

A quick Google search for “Valentine’s Day songs” comes up with playlists of cheesy Motown hits, classic rom-com soundtracks, and a few too many slow songs reminiscent of embarrassing middle school dances. I’m looking at you, Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect.” If you add “for single people” to the end of that Google search, the song choices are limited mostly to breakup anthems, self-love songs, and a lot more Taylor Swift. If songs aren’t about romantic love, they’re about the absence of it.

When Boston College’s a cappella group, Common Tones, posted a TikTok of them singing an a cappella arrangement of “Carol of the Bells” in a stairwell one December morning on a whim, the last thing programming director Annabel Lee, MCAS ’25, expected was for the video to go viral. “That was kind of just, like, out of the blue,” Lee said.
