By Leanne WarrSome of Dannevirke’s junior cricketers will be facing a bit of a learning curve as they prepare for Hawke’s Bay Cricket Camp, also known as Riverbend Camp. Going since 1979, coach Matt Greig says it’s a tournament where any club in New Zealand can enter from Year 4s up to Year 13s. Six games of cricket are played over four days but the emphasis is on kids getting together and playing cricket.

The Manawatū Gorge (pictured in 2012) could potentially become a geopark. Geological features within the Tararua District are being looked at as potential heritage sites, and a steering group is aiming for Unesco listings. One of those sites is the Manawatū Gorge, which the group is hoping to develop as a geopark.

Prices were reasonable at the PGG Wrightson stock sale in Dannevirke. There were 249 weaner bulls offered fetching an average price of $633 with a minimum of $360 and the highest at $750. These Friesian bulls looked like they would rather be out in the paddock enjoying the sun at the PGG Wrightson dairy beef sale held in Dannevirke.

Graeme Broderick, regional director for Kāinga Ora Taranaki, Whanganui and Manawatū with Tararua District mayor Tracey Collis at one of the new homes which will have tenants moving in soon. New homes built for Kāinga Ora have been praised by members of the Dannevirke community. The Government social housing provider held a community open day to give locals the opportunity to see inside the new homes in Cole St.The reactions from those who explored the new homes were positive.
