Amp Fiddler, the influential musician and mentor from Detroit who died in 2023 at age 65, will be honored when the city renames a street after him. A stretch at Seven Mile Road and Revere Street is set to be renamed “Amp Fiddler Avenue” in Conant Gardens, the Detroit neighborhood where Fiddler lived and served as a mentor for many musicians.

Shopping is finally returning to the long-dormant site of Detroit’s former J.L. Hudson Department Store and the new home of Dan Gilbert’s Hudson’s Detroit tower. Gilbert’s Bedrock announced the first tenant for the building will be athletic apparel store Alo Yoga. It will be the Los Angeles-based company’s first Detroit location. The chain also has a store at Troy’s Somerset Collection.

A historic farm in Michigan’s third-largest city has hit the market — and the price looks good. The Gillett-Beer Farm has been listed on Zillow with an asking price of $199,900. The farm is located at 4201 Chicago Rd., Warren and sits on an .89-acre property on Red Run Creek. Part of the building dates to the 1830s. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a basement, and a one-car garage.

Bernie Sanders is once again asking for something literally every other industrialized nation in the world has except for the United States — universal health care. The U.S. Senator was joined on Tuesday by Michigan’s U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell and U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington to introduce the Medicare for All Act of 2025. “Every American has the right to health care, period,” Dingell said in a statement.
Ex Rocket Companies CEO’s Franklin Oyster Bar readies for opening

The Franklin Oyster Bar & Eatery is getting ready to open. The restaurant says it expects to open for business on Tuesday, June 10 in the former Franklin Grill space at 32760 Franklin Rd. The building has origins as a 1848 carriage house and required extensive renovations, the restaurant says. The project is overseen by ex-Rocket Companies CEO Jay Farner, whose Ronin Capital Partners created Thyme and Place Hospitality to operate the restaurant.

Flower Day in Eastern Market is one of those beloved Detroit celebrations, and Detroit City Distillery is toasting the occasion with a new vodka. The Eastern Market-based distillery is releasing a limited-edition Flower Day-inspired vodka, made from Michigan corn vodka and infused with lavender and lemon flavors. “We have always wanted to create a spirit to honor this time of year,” the company said in a statement.
