DOWNTOWN — Chicago has two new James Beard Award winners: the upscale bar Kumiko and chef Noah Sandoval of the tasting-menu restaurant Oriole, both in the West Loop. The 35th annual James Beard Awards were presented Monday night at the Lyric Opera House in Downtown Chicago, 20 N. Wacker Drive. Dubbed the “Oscars of the food world,” the awards recognize exceptional talent in the culinary and food media industries and are presented every June in Chicago.

NORTH LAWNDALE — Riot Fest just announced its 2025 daily schedules, which means attendees can start planning their itineraries ahead of time. Whether you’re looking to catch one of the headliners like Blink-182, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Weezer, Jack White or Green Day — or one of the dozens of other acts, from Alkaline Trio to Gwar to Rilo Kiley — you can now find out when and where they’re performing at the mega music fest in North Lawndale. The fest runs Sept. 19-21 in Douglass Park.

DOWNTOWN — The Signature Room, the fine dining restaurant that occupied the 95th and 96th floors of the former John Hancock Center, abruptly closed after 30 years in 2023. Now it is scheduled to become Chicago’s first “multi-story observation deck” and a private event venue. Magnicity — the French company that owns 360 Chicago’s 94th floor observation deck, Tilt experience and bar — bought the two additional floors at 875 N. Michigan Ave. last year.
