CHICAGO — It could feel as hot at 105 degrees in Chicago over the next few days as a dangerous heat wave hits the city. Friday is expected to be warm with mixed weather: There’s a chance for showers in the morning, and the day will start mostly cloudy but become sunnier, according to the National Weather Service. There could be wind gusts up to 25 mph. The day is expected to hit a high of 84 degrees before dropping to 73 degrees overnight.

CHICAGO — The former Loretto Hospital executive charged with stealing millions from the safety-net hospital also used fake COVID-19 testing companies to steal about $300 million from the government, prosecutors alleged in a newly unsealed indictment. Former Loretto COO and CFO Anosh Ahmed is among a group of four who now face charges related to the scheme, prosecutors said.

CHICAGO — A Chicago police officer was shot and killed Thursday night in Chatham. The officer was identified as 36-year-old Krystal Rivera, of Irving Park, in Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office records. Rivera was a mother of a young daughter and had been with the Police Department for four years, Supt. Larry Snelling said at a Friday morning news conference. Rivera was “young, vibrant and a hard worker,” Snelling said.
