CHICAGO — Ventra’s app appeared to be down for some commuters Monday morning — just as thousands of people were preparing to travel on the CTA and Metra. People on social media said the app wasn’t opening, would crash if it did open or wasn’t updating, among other issues. The app is used by millions as part of their day’s travel, with many relying on it to add money to their fare cards or, for Metra, using it as their card. It was not immediately clear how widespread the issue was.

CHICAGO — Police are looking for a man who escaped the Cook County criminal courthouse immediately after a judge ordered him to be held in jail, according to reports. On Monday afternoon, Richard Donta Cotton, 32, appeared at a court hearing at the George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building, 2650 S. California Ave., because he is facing weapons charges, according to ABC7.
