North Queenslanders are facing more weather-related challenges on Thursday after heavy rain forced the closure of several roads in the region including busy Stuart Drive, while a major flood warning was renewed for the Haughton River, impacting Giru. The Queensland Traffic website warned at 6.30am that heavy rain had led to the closure of Stuart Drive to traffic in both directions between Fairfield Waters Drive and the Bruce Highway, with long delays expected.

A 21-year-old man is assisting police with inquiries after he allegedly stole a car from Hughenden and crashed it in Richmond. The car was initially reported stolen from a Moran St, Hughenden address on Friday evening. By 1.20am, the driver and sole occupant had totalled the car at Goldring and Clayton St, Richmond - right around the corner from the Richmond Police Station.

Townsville City Council has issued a warning to residents living in the Stuart area that their water supply will be impacted on Thursday night. The council’s crews are currently undertaking emergency repairs to fix a broken water main off Stuart Drive. “Homes in the area and the Stuart Correctional Centre will be impacted for around two hours from around 9pm tonight,” the council said in a statement.
