A man has been arrested on murder charges in connection to the December death of an inmate at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. State police said 31-year-old Kyle McKinnon is facing charges after allegedly killing his cellmate, 26-year-old Kenneth Montaner-Buscampbell. McKinnon was arrested on Friday. Staff members said they found an inmate lying on his back unresponsive on a table on Dec 12. They attempted to resuscitate him, but were unable to do so.

Stop signs are self-explanatory - they spell out what you're supposed to do when you encounter one. In practice, drivers are not always following the letter of the law. NBC Connecticut Investigates looked into the frequency of crashes at stop sign intersections and found out, it hasn't really been studied. So we put some intersections to the test. We staked out five intersections in cities and towns around the state. What our cameras captured time and time again were vehicles rolling past stop signs.

Bridgeport police have looked at tens of thousands of video clips since September. The videos were captured by cameras on the school district's 248 buses, which are also outfitted with license plate readers. NBC Connecticut Investigates has learned of an under the radar company that was operating in Rocky Hill, with investigators making an unusual discovery inside the business. At this point, the business is no longer at the business park where a disturbance last weekend prompted a call to police. Police reports say a New York-based company called UniUni had an operation there, delivering packages in the area. Officers were called there on Sunday, Jan. 5 after some kind of worker dispute.

Old Saybrook released the findings of an outside firm hired to determine why the town's police department has trouble retaining officers. The Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) said this is one of the most challenging management studies it has ever conducted. "Basic procedural issues that are typically handled without complication....were fraught with delays, unforeseen complexities, and occasional disagreements," the report said.

State leaders are reviewing lessons learned after a disruptive outage impacted 911 service. Back on Oct. 22, a large phone network in Connecticut failed. A statewide alert went out to use non-emergency numbers, or text to 911. That spurred people to test the system, causing a near 600% spike in text to 911 volume, impairing the 911 centers. The state will soon distribute a list of routine numbers for 911 centers so people will know they have a place to call in an emergency.

The death of the American mall has been greatly exaggerated...depending on who you ask. The visuals at the Enfield Square Mall have been stark for some time. One day before Christmas, empty parking lots and anchor stores were seen. This has not been a surprise for lifelong Enfield resident Carolyn Renius"I grew up here my whole life and I was used to a lot of stores here and now it's bare," Renius said. Across our state, towns have taken advantage of state and federal programs to add, enhance and improve their sidewalks - one of the most low-tech methods of making things safer for pedestrians. Opponents of a large industrial project in the Gales Ferry section of Ledyard got to have their say Thursday night at a long-awaited public hearing. Up until this point, the company proposing the excavation of a portion of Mount Decatur provided a majority of the testimony. The company has asked the town planning and zoning board for a modification of a special permit to do the work.
