After facing a cold spring morning Thursday, New Jersey will see a steady warmup heading into Easter weekend and the final weeks of April. That’s what forecasters from the National Weather Service and AccuWeather are predicting. The weather service’s Climate Prediction Center says there’s a good chance that temperatures in the Garden State during the final two weeks of April should be near normal or slightly above average.

People in more than a dozen states in the northern U.S. might get a glimpse of the colorful Northern Lights glowing in the sky Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, forecasters say. A strong geomagnetic storm, a natural occurrence caused by solar flares or other sun activity, is expected to occur Wednesday night, according to forecasters from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center, affiliated with the National Weather Service.

Strong, isolated thunderstorms have started to develop in parts of New Jersey Tuesday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning for two counties in the western region of the state. Thunderstorm warnings were issued shortly before 4:10 p.m. for all of Sussex County and the northeastern region of Warren County, along with northern Monroe County in eastern Pennsylvania.

Winds are expected to ramp up in many areas of New Jersey Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue wind advisories for most of the state. Wind advisories have been posted in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties, effective early Tuesday afternoon through 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Four counties in southern New Jersey have been designated as natural disaster areas because of the agricultural damage caused by the severe drought conditions that plagued the region last fall and winter. The disaster designation “allows the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans," the USDA announced this week.
