1. IntroductionThe results of numerous irradiation studies which have been performed on metallic fuels indicate that there is a need for a metallic fuel alloy with high-temperature ( T ) strength sufficient to support the core, acceptable nuclear properties, good fabricability, and compatibility with usable coolant media. In an effort to improve ductility and corrosion resistance, elements like titanium, zirconium, niobium, and molybdenum have been used to alloy uranium (U) [1,2,3].
