    ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Crews with the Asheville Fire Department battled a house fire early Thursday morning, Nov. 16, near west Asheville. The fire was contained to an attic space and an outbuilding at a home on Johnston Boulevard. I-26 IN HENDERSON COUNTY REOPENS AFTER DUAL EMERGENCIES DISRUPT MORNING COMMUTEThe fire backed up morning traffic for a time. There were no injuries, and one dog was rescued from the home. Officials said the cause is under investigation.

    MADISON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation will be ready for winter weather when it happens. Division crews at the Madison County maintenance yard are preparing for the winter in earnest, even though winter doesn't official begin until Dec. 21. They're checking all the snow plows and making sure all the equipment is ready to go for the months ahead.

    BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Local teachers will get an increase in pay thanks in part to additional funding from Buncombe County. Tuesday night, Oct. 3, commissioners approved increasing education spending by $6.1 million, with most of the funding intended to provide teacher pay raises. Earlier this year, commissioners also upped the tax rate by one cent -- now making it 49.8 cents per 100 dollars of assessed value. That will help match salary increases at the state and local levels.
