Emily Christie, who works at Wakefield House in Cullen, is one of three Moray carers within Parklands Care Homes to be in the running. Along with Emily, Amanda Shaw and Moya Boonzaaier from Speyside Care Home in Aberlour have also been nominated for the Stars of Social Care Awards. Emily has been nominated for the Inspirational Care Home Worker Award.

    A man has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after targeting children with sexual abuse and drugs. Jamie Chapman, 28, committed the crimes which involved children between 2021 and 2022 in Buckie. Police Scotland have confirmed he was sentenced at the High Court in Dundee, having been found guilty at the High Court in Inverness last month. BBC News reported that Chapman was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old boy on various occasions at his trial.

    A verdict on plans to restrict mobile phone use in schools is due next week, as parents and staff back the measures but pupils stand opposed. Moray Council officers have recommended that councillors adopt the new policy, which would affect both primary and secondary schools, at a committee meeting. Under the plans there would be “no mobile phones or devices present” in primary schools, and secondary pupils would be told to keep devices “switched off and out of sight” during the school day.
