HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Valley Storm Team is watching a complex of heavy rain and thunderstorms to our north. This will likely, very slowly, push south into Monday afternoon, bringing heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding concerns. Observed rainfall rates have been between 2-3 inches per hour with localized amounts between 3-6″. Additional showers and thunderstorms have developed across portions of the Valley as well.

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Happy Wednesday! There was a lot of rainfall across parts of the Valley earlier today and some areas where little to no rain fell. So what happened? HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Today is going to stay mostly dry, though a stray shower influenced along the shore can’t be ruled out, under partly to mostly cloudy skies. Humidity factored in to already hot temperatures (mid 90s to low 100s) will create temperatures that feel like between 100-110°. There is an area of low pressure currently set up near Arizona/ New Mexico. This feature will shift east across the state of Texas during the day, influencing a line of showers and thunderstorms.

HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — It’s a relatively quiet start to the day, but that changes thanks to an approaching cold front on Saturday. But before talking about the specifics, let’s talk about Friday’s forecast. We’ve seen a few stray showers, but rain coverage will stay relatively low (around a 20% chance) all day long. Morning clouds with peaks of sunshine this afternoon. High temperatures for almost all will climb into the 90s.

Thanks to a slow moving, now a stalled cold front, situated in eastern Texas plus the addition of ample moisture is driving rain chances here across the Valley. (Also why we saw more rain than expected over Easter Sunday). We’re seeing heavy rain bands across Cameron and Willacy expanding west. Some areas have received 1-3+ inches of rain since sunrise Monday morning. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has all four counties under a general risk for thunderstorms today.
