The man wore a New York Yankees cap, a beard, and an oversized shirt, and he strode purposefully towards me while I stood on the pavement, watching the protestors gathered outside the Glendale Hilton Hotel. Her driver, a chatty middle-aged woman named Victoria, had begun her life story before my wife even sat inside the car. By the time they reached our apartment in Glendale, Victoria was still mid-sentence. Apparently, she was on her own journey to build a better life, or meet a millionaire. Either would do.
