The Canadian Union of Postal Workers says the Crown corporation has proposed continuing talks on Wednesday. It says Canada Post plans to respond to proposals the union presented on Sunday. The union had been in a strike position starting Friday but opted instead for an overtime ban.

Montreal police say they've arrested five people in a rash of recent distraction thefts in which seniors were targeted for their jewelry. The issue has risen in prominence in recent months, with police departments across the country -- including Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto -- warning citizens about the practice earlier this year.

Construction on the first of four small modular reactors at a nuclear station east of Toronto is set to begin this year with the entire project costing $21 billion. The first reactor at the site of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station should be completed by 2030, officials said. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission approved Ontario Power Generation's plan last month to build the first of four reactors.

The Supreme Court of Canada has agreed to hear a case about whether it's constitutional for police to make a random traffic stop without reasonable suspicion the driver has committed an offence. Canada's highest court announced Thursday it has granted the Quebec government leave to appeal a lower court decision that said random stops lead to racial profiling.
