AbstractMimicking the superstructures and properties of spherical biological encapsulants such as viral capsids1 and ferritin2 offers viable pathways to understand their chiral assemblies and functional roles in living systems. However, stereospecific assembly of artificial polyhedra with mechanical properties and guest-binding attributes akin to biological encapsulants remains a formidable challenge.

AbstractLeveraging the entire space of complex dielectric permittivity, non-Hermitian photonics has fundamentally altered wave propagation with complex optical potentials and has ushered in a host of new photonic applications. Through parity–time symmetry and its breaking—a delicate interplay between gain and loss—even the interaction between just two entities becomes counter-intuitive and intriguing.

A flexible, water anchoring, and colorimetric ionogel for sweat monitoring† As water-saturated polymer networks, the easy water loss of hydrogels directly affects their end-use applications. Minimizing the ratio of free water and increasing the ratio of bound water in the gel system has become key to extending the service life.

AbstractLight can be tailored to carry angular momentum well beyond the restriction of its two spin states, left- and right-circularly polarized light, by imbuing it with orbital angular momentum (OAM). OAM is controlled by imparting finer and finer azimuthal phase gradients, twisting the wavefront ever tighter in one of two helicities, clockwise or anticlockwise.
