Vanessa Newton, a licensed therapist with Colors of Austin Counseling, explores why mental health issues tend to increase during the holiday season. "We think about the holidays, we think there's so much pressure to attend the events, spend it with family, buy the gifts, you know, and do all the things and be out and social and active," said Newton.

A new affordable housing complex for Austin's homeless population opened in North Austin. The new community, Balcones Terrace, is located just off of Loop 360 where it houses 123 units. The building used to be a hotel but was renovated and redesigned. The community is for single adults who are, or have been homeless, or are living on extremely low and fixed incomes. Fifty project-based vouchers from the Housing Authority of City of Austin (HACA) have been awarded.

Many knew her as Orange Socks for decades, but five years ago, she got her name back. However, the Williamson County Sheriff's Office is still investigating the murder of Debra Jackson. On Oct. 31, 1979, the body of a young woman was found in a culvert off of I-35, just north of mile marker 268 in Georgetown. The medical examiner was able to determine the cause of death as strangulation and ruled it a homicide. "The only article of clothing she had on her was a pair of orange socks," WCSO Det.
