PENDLETON — The South Madison Community Schools Corp. board began the new year by choosing a new leader. John Lord was named the board’s new president during its meeting on Thursday. “It is an honor to be given this position,” Lord said. “I am thrilled.” Lord previously served as a teacher at East Elementary School and an assistant principal at Pendleton Heights Middle School before retiring from Maple Ridge Elementary School as the principal after 17 years.

With area schools shuttered for an extra day of holiday break due to the area’s first winter storm of the season, dozens of families headed to Shadyside and other popular sledding spots for some wintertime fun. For Kendra Kidwell, her young son was experiencing sledding for the first time. “It is his first year sledding,” Kidwell said.
