Roanoke County Public Schools named Kristen Canipe, a marketing teacher at Cave Spring High School, its 2025 Golden Apple Teacher of the Year during an award ceremony Wednesday evening. The school system presents the award in partnership with the Roanoke County Public Schools Education Foundation. In a news release from RCPS, Canipe said that she works to model respect, responsibility and safety for her students in everything she does.

Integer, a global medical equipment manufacturer, plans to expand its operations in Salem and create approximately 83 new jobs over five years, the governor's office announced Tuesday. The company plans to lease an additional manufacturing facility in order to increase its production of catheter components, according to a news release from Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office.

On Wednesday, Roanoke College will hold a national bone marrow registry drive to support a student who is fighting leukemia. Sophomore Eddie Kaufman went to the doctor after noticing swollen lymph nodes in his neck and was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia last fall. He’s currently receiving treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Autumn Bushman’s Celebration of Life, held at Berglund Center on Sunday, drew in hundreds of community members who wished to support her family and take a stance against bullying. Autumn, a 10-year-old student at Mountain View Elementary School in Roanoke County, died by suicide March 21. Since her death, her family has been trying to spread her story to raise awareness about bullying and to call for change, both locally and nationally.
