A developer has approached the Roanoke County School Board about purchasing a piece of property it owns at the corner of Brambleton Avenue and Ranchcrest Drive. David Andrews with The Shopping Center Group LLC in Richmond attended the school board’s work session on Thursday to represent Richard Bishop, who owns the parcel adjacent to the property owned by the school board. Bishop has owned the property, located near Cave Spring Middle School, for around 20 years, Andrews said.

A 40,000-square-foot Peterbilt dealership has been proposed to be built along U.S. 11 in Botetourt County. Palm Way Investments LLC submitted a request to rezone around 87 undeveloped acres in the Amsterdam District from agricultural to industrial use. The dealership itself, however, will be situated on roughly 17 acres. Headquartered in Denton, Texas, Peterbilt is an American truck manufacturer.

Janet Womack has been announced as the next superintendent of Botetourt County Public Schools, effective July 1. The Botetourt County School Board voted unanimously to hire Womack, who has been the county school system’s assistant superintendent since 2015, for the position during a special meeting Tuesday morning. Womack will replace Jonathan Russ, who has been superintendent in Botetourt County since 2020.

BLACKSBURG — People lined up in the rain outside of the new Crumbl Cookies in Blacksburg on Friday, waiting to try a treat from the chain’s first location in the area. Crumbl held a soft opening Thursday, followed by its grand opening Friday, for the new store located at 884 Prices Fork Road. Owner Patrick Gardner, who also owns the Lynchburg location and the soon-to-be location in southwest Roanoke County, fell in love with Crumbl when his son took him to one in Georgia a few years ago.

Since Donnie D’s Bagels and Deli in Roanoke caught fire last week, owners Donnie and Ashley DeGeorgis are doing what they can to pick up the pieces and move forward. Roanoke Fire-EMS crews responded to the fire at Donnie D’s on Brandon Avenue on the afternoon of May 23. Though it took them less than 15 minutes to control the fire, the interior of the building sustained significant damage.
