    Queensland's north tropical coast is set for more drenching rain, with days of heavy falls causing flooding around the region. A low pressure system has dumped more than 200 millimetres of rain on some areas in the past 24 hours, including 290mm at Clyde Road near Babinda. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) says some locations have received between 600 and 700mm of rain since Monday morning. Heavy rain is forecast between Bowen and Mackay today, with severe thunderstorms possible.

    The largest cruise ship to ever sail into Townsville will dock this morning, heralding the start of a record cruise season for northern Australia's largest city. The arrival of the 294-metre luxury Queen Elizabeth is the culmination of a $251 million project to widen the channel at the Port of Townsville. The port's general manager of customer, operations and safety, Drew Penny, said the major upgrade meant the tropical city could capitalise on the surging popularity of cruise holidays.

    Police have launched a homicide investigation after a young man's body was discovered in a car on a rural road in north Queensland. The 21-year-old was found by a member of the public lying across the back seat of a vehicle in the middle of Webb Road at Woodstock, about 60 kilometres from Townsville, on Saturday morning. Detective Inspector Jason Shepherd said the man had no obvious injuries and a post-mortem examination was underway.
