Shotguns, drugs, stolen bank cards seized during weapons investigation

Three people are facing charges after London police executed a search warrant finding a number of shotguns and about $3,700 in illegal drugs. Members of the London police Guns and Gangs Section along with the Emergency Response Unit conducted a weapons investigation at two homes in the area of Commissioners Road West and Viscount Road.

Forecasters are calling for damp end to the week in Windsor-Essex with more cloudiness and possible rain Thursday. According to Environment Canada, the region can expect clouds with a 30 per cent chance of rain or drizzle early in the morning. Any fog patches are expected to dissipate in the morning. The high for Thursday is expected to reach 7C. Conditions aren’t expected to change by the evening, with more cloudiness and a 30 per cent chance of drizzle.
OPP credits Good Samaritan with getting alleged impaired driver off the roadways

A commercial driver has been from London charged after a Good Samaritan reported a suspected impaired driver to police. The Ontario Provincial Police in Elgin County found and investigated the vehicle Thursday around 7:16 a.m. on Yarmouth Centre Road near Fruit Ridge Line after the citizen notified officers. Police say when an officer spoke to the driver, they observed signs of intoxication and administered a roadside approved screening device (ASD) test, registering a failure.
Pedestrian struck by pickup truck in west end recovering

Windsor police say a man is in hospital recovering from serious injuries after being struck by a pickup truck Thursday afternoon. Officers were dispatched at around 3:30 p.m. to the Sandwich Town area for a report of a collision involving a pedestrian. Through investigation, police learned the truck turning southeast on Mill St. from Sandwich St. struck the man as he was crossing the street. The driver remained at the scene.
OPP warn of sexploitation scam in Middlesex County

OPP are warning residents after responding to a ‘sextortion’ scam involving a teenager who had sent an intimate photo to and was being threatened by someone they met online. Members of the Middlesex County OPP were dispatched to the complaint in Middlesex Centre around noon Thursday where officers were told the teen shared the photo with an unknown person they met online.
Welcome Centre Shelter for Women and Families opens overnight warming centre

The Welcome Centre Sehlter for Women and Families is opening a warming centre for the winter to help offer a space to the growing population of women experiencing homelessness, the organization says. The new service opened on Monday and will be in place through March 31, 2024.
Sleighing Hunger concert raises more than $114K for local food banks

The annual Sleighing Hunger charity concert has raised $114,786 to be distributed to 16 food banks in the region. A news release from Caesars Windsor said thanks to an “incredible community response” along with donations from St. Clair College and Caesars Windsor Cares, the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association (WEFBA) and Chatham Outreach for Hunger (COH) received the funds to share amongst local food banks.
Traffic complaint leads to multiple charges for Mississauga resident

A complaint of dangerous driving on Highway 401 Wednesday afternoon led to a police pursuit and multiple charges for the driver. Members of the Middlesex County OPP were called to the westbound lanes of the 401 in London around 12:33 p.m. for a report of “a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner.” Police say the vehicle was located and officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle did not pull over and a brief pursuit was terminated.
Woman arrested for allegedly swinging machete down Chatham’s Queen Street

A woman is facing charges after allegedly swinging a machete and ‘yelling obscenities’ while walking in the middle of Queen Street early Thursday morning. Chatham-Kent police responded at around 4:20 a.m. to investigate “suspicious activity” in the area when they saw the woman. Police say she complied with the officer’s demands to drop the machete and was safely taken into custody. Officers learned the woman had allegedly went to a man’s home on Richmond Street with the machete.
Firefighters make quick work of east Windsor house fire

Windsor fire crews quickly snuffed out a house fire in the city’s east end late Wednesday night. Firefighters responded to the fire in the 9300 block of Little River Road at around 11:30 p.m. Crews were able to quickly get the fire out, and began conducting ventilation. Officials have yet to disclose a cause or origin of the fire. This is a developing story, more details to come.
