On Dec. 19, 2024, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a long-awaited final rule revising the definition of “healthy” when used in the labeling of food products. The rule revises the FDA’s criteria for use of terms like “healthy,” “healthful,” and “healthier,” terms that are implied nutrient content claims (NCCs) under FDA regulations in 21 CFR 101.65.
