BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - It’s no secret Bangor is busier in the warmer months. Whether it be tourist travel or concertgoers, it’s safe to say they are back. “We’re getting people from all over the country and as well as Canada. They come for different reasons. Bangor is kind of a hub for a lot of people. They realize that we’re central to the Katahdin area, the Acadia Park area as well as maybe going moose watching,” explained Dennis Michaud, General Manager of Paul Bunyan Campground.

It includes programming from workshops to student internships in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, known as STEAM.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Free compost and saplings will be available to Bangor residents starting Friday morning at Bangor Public Works. It has been tested to ensure it is ready to use and free of any residual herbicides. Residents are also welcome to pick up free saplings with varieties ranging from black cherry to red oak. They say residents are limited to one sapling and they expect them to go fast, but as far as compost goes residents are encouraged to take as much as they want.

APPLETON, Maine (WABI) - “When I first saw my very first water buffalo, I was actually on my way to a farm to get a guinea pig for my youngest son, and I was hesitant because at that point I was raising three kids. And I was like ‘Man, adding a pet to the mix, that’s a lot. A guinea pig? That’s a lot of care.’ So are water buffalo and everything just went out the window.

CLINTON, Maine (WABI) - Looking ahead to next year’s race for US Senate in Maine, only a few candidates have announced their intentions to run against Senator Susan Collins, R-Maine, but at this point, most of the more well-known Democrats have chosen to run for Governor. We asked Collins today about the race. She says she’s focusing on her job and her new position as the Senate Appropriations Committee Chair. Collins says the powerful position requires a great deal of work.

CLINTON, Maine (WABI) - Clinton’s Fire Department has a new station in the works. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, who secured $2,000,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending for the new facility, toured the 75-year-old station today and saw the need for the project. Clinton’s Fire Chief says the new station will have five truck and three rescue bays as well as much more space. He says additional funding for the station came as a loan after the town voted on it.

BELFAST, Maine (WABI) - Memorial Day in Belfast started with services at Grove Cemetery and the POW-MIA monument. “It holds meaning for us because those are the people who we’re remembering for their service, those who have lost their lives, those who carried the torch before we did. So, we’re just honoring them and we’re doing this. Hopefully the new generation will pass the torch and remember us when we’re gone,” stated Jim Roberts, Commander, VFW Belfast.

From Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan to Kidz Bop, the season has quite a variety of names for their 26 shows. It also features non-musical acts including comedians Matt Rife and Jerry SeinfeldAccording to Alex Gray of Waterfront Concerts, he expects another busy season with names such as the Lumineers and Shania Twain among others to sell out or come close to it.

ORONO, Maine (WABI) - Hundreds of school students from across the state attended the annual Maine Learning Technology Initiative Student Conference in Orono Thursday. The event was hosted on the University of Maine campus by the Maine Department of Education. It focused on educating students in a fun way on topics such as robotics, AI, and cyber security. Those from the department say it’s important to stay up to date on teaching kids about those emerging fields.
