    The New York City Department of Buildings issued two violations to Luna Park following an incident that involved the Cyclone, Coney Island’s nearly 100-year-old rollercoaster. The violations include failure to maintain due to the cracked sprocket, and failure to notify the DOB of the incident.     The New York Blood Center partnered with the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center to host a blood drive Sunday during a season when it is especially hard to maintain an adequate supply. Blood drive organizers say the summer shortage is usually a result of people taking vacations and a higher demand for blood. They say the higher need for blood can often be due to people getting injured, or some illnesses that can get worse in hot weather.

Firefighters responded to Broadway Street off the Major Deegan Expressway at around 10 a.m. for a basement fire. Michal Ofsky, the chief financial officer of Rental Masters, told News 12 he smelled some smoke and got everyone out.
