When a baby develops eczema, parents are typically focused on soothing inflamed skin—not worrying about potential breathing issues years down the line. But according to a new study, that itchy, uncomfortable skin condition could be a clue to something more: a higher risk of developing asthma. Published in The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI), the study followed 393 children from birth to age 7 as part of the Infant Immune Study at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
