    Many Bay Area families have been feeling the budget crunch lately. Now, they’re getting some extra help understanding their finances thanks to Wells Fargo and the United Way. On Monday, Wells Fargo presented United Ways of California with a $1 million check to help increase financial literacy across the state. The money will go toward SparkPoint centers in California, which are run by the United Way, with $250,000 specifically earmarked for centers in the Bay Area.

    Even Bay Area pups showed their pride on Sunday. Berkeley held its second annual Doggy Pride Parade on Sunday, hosted by Berkeley Humane and Third Culture Bakery. Hundreds of dogs and their owners dressed up to strut their stuff down 8th Street, wearing lots of rainbow bandanas, Hawaiian dog shirts and even a peacock-pup. There was also a costume contest, and a drag performance. Owners told NBC Bay Area Sunday that it was a way for them to show their pride in a dog-friendly setting.

    Despite facing a budget deficit, San Francisco Mayor London Breed is looking to allocate more than $692 million toward helping the city’s large homeless population. Breed’s budget proposal includes investments to add 600 new shelter beds, and 545 affordable housing slots specifically for the formerly unhoused. The city will also create 825 slots for prevention, providing resources and eviction protections for those at risk of becoming homeless.
